This grant supported a pilot into using eReaders to "encourage voracious consumption of high-quality books" by Whitson students, as well as supporting struggling readers and English language learners with "immersive reading" experiences. Immersive reading has a professional reader’s voice is synchronized with the text of the eBook - each word being highlighted as it is read, allowing below average readers to enjoy books that match their intellectual capabilities before they have fully mastered the mechanics of translating letters into phonemes, words, and meaning.
