Media Arts Project – $5,355
Curricular Area: Arts; Career & Technical Education
Grant Focus: Technology
Schools: Henkle Middle School, Columbia High School
Items Purchased: iPad Pro Kits and accessories
The aim of this grant is to facilitate a 7-12th Media Arts Pilot Program, with the long-term goal of a sustainable Career and Technical Education program in Film and Media Arts. Teachers and students will be trained in the necessary film and media production skills to produce professional-quality media for public release, using new iPad Pro Kits and accessories provided by this grant. Year 1 involves a partnership with the US Forest Service, who will provide unreleased footage from the 2017 Eagle Creek fire, access to interviewees, information and research, and, potentially, access to the fire area. Students will, in essence, become the USFS media team, as they learn to manage this data, research and interview fire resources, film, edit and produce everything from short video clips to PSAs to 3-5 minute documentaries.
